We have been retained by a major
Florida insurer to fill a counsel position in its Legal and
Compliance Department.
This position will provide a wide range of internal legal services.
Principal focus is on insurance underwriting, product, regulatory,
contracts, and transactions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides legal services in these and other areas of concentration:
- Insurance underwriting,
product, contracts, processing, and terminations.
Insurance regulatory.
- Market conduct and quality
assurance.
- Reinsurance and other corporate
insurance.
- Drafts, reviews, negotiates &
interprets contracts and agreements, proposed legislation, company
regulations, policy forms and manuals, and rules of practice.
- Compliance and ethics in the
insurance operations (non-claims) departments, including
implementation of new legislation and regulations.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
- Works as part of
Corporate/Regulatory Legal Team, providing assistance and legal
peer reviews.
- Provides legal advice,
strategies, solutions, and guidance to senior management, other
managers and employees on implications of proposed & existing
regulations, policies, practices, and problems.
- Performs research & analysis in
areas of law and policy, often involving novel & complex issues.
- Remain abreast of relevant
laws, amendments, and their interpretations and application.
- Designs and delivers training
on legal and compliance issues.
- Litigation supervision
(including selection and management of outside counsel), if
assigned.
- Discovery responses (including
subpoena and deposition preparation), if assigned.
- Provides other legal services
as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience in all or several of
the above areas of concentration.
- Skilled in legal analysis,
critical thinking, legal counseling, and problem solving;
creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems;
good legal and business judgment.
- Able to be both proactive and
reactive – in a fast-paced, highly-visible, heavily regulated
legal entity.
- Strong sense of urgency,
personal responsibility, accountability, self-motivated,
efficient, effective.
- Able to initiate, organize,
prioritize, and coordinate multiple & complex projects and cases.
- Able to work autonomously and
as part of team (legal and project), to lead, follow, and
collaborate.
- Excellent communication
(written and verbal), interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Forward-thinking and creative;
confidence to present & advocate for implementation of ideas.
- Track record of building and
leveraging strong relationships internally and externally,
resulting in successful implementation of strategic priorities,
operational improvements and corporate objectives.
Required Education, Credentials,
and Experience:
- J.D. degree and active member
of the Florida Bar or secured within 18 months of hire.
- Minimum five years relevant
experience.
- Homeowners and commercial
property insurance experience preferred.
- Reinsurance and other corporate
insurance experience preferred.
- Candidate with strong academic
record preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
